WINNIPEG — Manitoba NDP leader Greg Selinger made the unusual move of inviting media into his home on Sunday morning; an effort that he described as being transparent with the public.
Selinger showed his 2014 T4 tax return form at his kitchen table and referenced the headline-grabbing Panama Papers, which has shown a number of Canadians hiding their income in offshore accounts.

“Personally, I have no foreign holdings or accounts,” Selinger said.

Selinger said he is against putting money into offshore accounts, adding that the practice “takes money away from important services like health care and education.”
He also appeared to call out other political parties to follow suit, adding,”Manitobans need to know their leaders are being open and transparent, that they are leaders with nothing to hide.”
Rana Bokhari, leader of the Manitoba Liberals responded by releasing her personal 2013 notice of assessment on Sunday afternoon. Bokhari said she was spurred on by Selinger’s actions earlier in the day.
The leader of the Manitoba Tories did not commit to showing his T4 tax return or notice of assessment but his party released a statement questioning the NDP leader’s motives.
They called Selinger “desperate” and according to statement, the tax form release done for the purpose of “an old, tired government trying to divert voters’ attention from the real issues.”
Pallister’s party also said Selinger has not been transparent with Manitobans, citing the controversial PST hike of 2013.
