Dry conditions, wind hamper efforts to extinguish grass fire east of Airdrie

Rocky View County fire department spent Friday afternoon battling a grass fire east of Airdrie.

Crews from Beiseker, Irricana, Balzac and Crossfield responded to reports a fire had sparked along the train tracks halfway between Irricana and Beiseker around 12:20 p.m.

By 2:45 the fire had been contained but gusty winds and extremely dry conditions were causing some problems putting the fire completely out.

Crews said the fire grew to about the size of three or four skating rinks.
