LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – Three homes have been destroyed and several more damaged after a fire tore through west Lethbridge Wednesday night.

At 6:51 p.m., Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call about a house fire in the community of Sunridge. When they arrived on scene, crews found two homes engulfed in flames.

Officials said the smoke and heavy winds made battling the blaze a challenge for them, but they were able to contain the fire quickly.

A third home was also consumed by the fire and several homes in the surrounding area were affected by smoke and heat damage.

No one was injured in the fire but several homes in the area were evacuated when the fire broke out.

“Because of the wind at the time, had we not been able to get water on it sooner, certainly it would have been a whole lot worse,” Deputy Fire Chief Dana Terry said.
