An elderly woman was killed in a house fire in Mississauga Wednesday evening, while a second fire in Scarborough left a person with serious injuries.

Fire crews responded to the scene of the blaze at about 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday on Shadbush Court, in the Burnamthorpe Road and Glen Erin Drive area of Mississauga.

Peel police said an unnamed elderly woman was located inside the home and was rushed to hospital without vital signs. She later died of her injuries.

Emergency crews said heavy smoke was visible in the area and no other injuries were reported. The Ontario Fire Marshall has also been notified.

Twelve firetrucks and 45 Toronto firefighters responded to a separate house fire at Lord Roberts Drive in the in Scarborough at about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

An unidentified person was located at the scene with serious injuries and paramedics were prepared to perform an emergency run to hospital.

Lord Roberts Drive was temporarily closed at Wainfleet Road while the fire was extinguished.
