But the Structures and Construction branch said the timeline for completed repairs has stretched into mid-June, due to agreements with CN Rail, which owns part of the property.

Many Manitobans will soon notice a delay when they head to cottage country.

“I like to say we have two seasons in Manitoba: winter and construction season,” said Barry Prentice, professor at the transportation institute at the University of Manitoba.

The province added, “it was also determined more than annual maintenance would be required based on inspection.”

Prentice said it is a positive sign engineers have identified problematic infrastructure before it becomes too costly or dangerous.
