Surrey shows off model of proposed light rail transit line

Surrey is hoping to get the public on board with their proposal for a light rail system.

At yesterday’s Canada Day festivities, officials highlighted their push for a light rail transit system.

A 60-foot long full size model of a light rail vehicle was on display.

The city wants to install three light rail lines, from Surrey City Centre, to Newton, Guildford and Langley.

Translink wants to extend the existing Expo Line farther into Surrey, using Skytrain technology.

But Surrey mayor Dianne Watts would prefer to have an LRT system because it’s cheaper than Skytrain technology.
