Manitoba Liberals make camping reservations announcement without Rana Bokhari

WINNIPEG — Manitoba Liberals are promising a better way to reserve camping spots if the party should win the April 19 election.

Ian McCausland, a candidate in west Winnipeg, says a Liberal government would replace the current system in which campsites across the province open for reservations on the same day.

He says staggered dates would be brought in to avoid long waits — reservations for specific days would be available exactly six months beforehand.

Party leader Rana Bokhari, who has made the majority of party announcements during the election campaign, was not on hand for this one.

Liberal spokesman Mike Brown says McCausland made the announcement because he is a scout leader who is passionate about camping.

Bokhari’s last news conference was Monday, when she dropped a candidate and said the Liberals had been through a rough week.

McCausland said more candidates might be making campaign promises instead of Bokhari before voting day.

“These decisions are going to be made, obviously, on a day-by-day basis. I mean, it’s a very dynamic and interesting campaign,” he said.
