Yellowhead Trail reopened after early morning collision

EDMONTON – Yellowhead Trail is open again, following a serious early morning collision that closed Yellowhead Trail from 66th Street to Wayne Gretzky Drive.

Westbound traffic was diverted north onto 66th Street and eastbound traffic was diverted south onto Wayne Gretzky, according to the City of Edmonton spokeswoman Laura McNabb.

Police were called to the two-vehicle collision, involving a black Pathfinder and grey Camaro, at about 3:20 a.m. Saturday.

Sgt. Bult tells Global News a Saskatchewan woman, who was driving the Camaro, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane at which point she collided with a Nissan Pathfinder.

Three people were sent to hospital, said Staff Sgt. Mike Campeau.

The driver of the Pathfinder had broken bones, while the passenger was taken to hospital with critical injuries. The extent of the Saskatchewan woman’s injuries are not known at this time, however, her vehicle caught fire in the crash.
