Man accused of shooting two Killam RCMP officers out on bail

Sawyer Robison, the man accused of shooting two RCMP officers near Killam in February, was released on bail Friday night.

In February, Robison was the target of a manhunt after two constables were shot while conducting a search warrant on his uncle’s farm near Killam. He turned himself over to police three days later and was later charged with two counts of attempted murder and 15 weapons charges.

He left Edmonton’s Remand Centre just after six o’clock on Friday, appearing clean shaven and with shorter hair than we’ve seen previously. He was granted bail Wednesday evening after being denied a first request in April.

Robison refused to comment on the conditions surrounding his bail, which include staying with family on their farm, observing a strict curfew and having no contact with a small anti-government group called Freemen on the Land. The group has roughly 30,000 members in Canada and is considered to be anti-establishment.

Other conditions of his bail include turning over his passport as well as any other firearms and ammunition he may own.

He is also not allowed to enter the towns of Sedgewick nor Killam.

Police will also be able to check on Robison at any time and he is expected to appear within 15 minutes with his hands in the air.

Bail was set at $100,000 dollars, and in order to be released Robison had to produce $10,000 dollars in cash. He is scheduled for a pre-trial in October.

Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette are the two officers injured in the shootings. RCMP say both are recovering well and expected to be back to full duties July 5th.
