QUEBEC CITY – A future live arts theatre in the heart of Quebec City is receiving generous support from overseas.
The Diamant is the brainchild of well-known actor and director, Robert Lepage, to be constructed in a heritage building in Place D’Youville, close to Old Quebec.
Japanese company Kabuchan International, which specializes in importing Quebec food products to Japan, is investing $1 million to see the theatre constructed by 2018.

Kabuchan president Takeya Kaburaki said the company hopes its support will also lead to more opportunities for cultural exchanges in the future.
“It’s one of the most important contributions from a foreigner in culture in this country,” said Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume.
Robert Lepage said his company, Ex-Machina, spends a lot of time touring the world with its productions.
“We’d like to gather all those resources and that energy and have our own space here in Quebec City and hopefully people from all over the world will come to us,” he said, adding he and his company will continue touring.
