Ali Hassan - Calgary boy bitten by a police dog.

CALGARY – Ali Hassan is walking on crutches now but the 12-year-old says his leg still hurts and it’s no wonder why.

Hassan was bitten by an off-duty police dog named Marco on Wednesday evening.

The German shepherd had chased him into his Aspen Hills home after getting away from his handler.

“(It) makes me feel very scared,” Hassan said on Friday, adding that the attack has also left him physically sore.

“Especially his bites – those were very painful.  I had to call 9-1-1 and I had to go into the ambulance for my first time.”

Marco, a Calgary Police Service dog, has a spotless record.

He is currently in a secure cell undergoing behaviour evaluation.

Calgary Police Chief Roger Chaffin has promised a full and thorough investigation and until that’s completed, police and bylaw officers are not commenting.

In the meantime, Hassan will continue his recovery.

“I feel better… but I could still feel much, much better,” he said.
