Now, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey for OWN’s Soul Sunday, Morgan is saying he found a little bit of comfort while he was in the coma, because he saw his late father right before his eyes. Morgan’s father died of AIDS in 1987.

“When you’re in a coma for eight to 10 days, you’re basically knocking on the door,” Morgan said to Winfrey. “I don’t know if I was in the coma or in and out of the coma, but I remember … I was talking to my dad.”

“He had this green, this green thing on,” Morgan continues. “I just remember him saying, ‘I’m not ready for you, son.'”

“I started crying so hard,” he says. “Probably harder than I cried at his funeral. I just kept saying, ‘Dad.’ He was my best friend in life.”
