Halifax police have charged a man after a child was left unattended in a van last September.
Police say they were called to the area of College and Summer Streets on Sept. 20, 2015 after a baby was reported being locked in a minivan.
When officers arrived, they saw a baby in a child safety seat in the back of the van sweating, crying and in distress.
Police couldn’t locate any adults in the area. They broke a window and removed the baby who was then checked by paramedics.
A man, who police say is the father of the child, showed up at the van later and the Department of Community Services were called.
A 55-year-old man was arrested on Feb. 4 and he appeared in Halifax provincial court on Thursday morning.
He is charged with abandoning a child. His identity is being withheld as part of a publication ban, protecting the identity of the child.
