Power restored but blackouts likely in Saskatchewan storm’s aftermath

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Power has been restored to parts of northern Saskatchewan, but it may not stay on for long.

SaskPower says electricity is flowing again to the cities of Prince Albert, Meadow Lake and North Battleford, as well as to La Ronge and surrounding rural areas.

But the utility says rotating outages are likely throughout the day as repairs are made to transmission lines.

The lines and some steel towers were blown down in a storm Monday night that left tens of thousands of people in the dark.

SaskPower also says there are new outages in 22 communities after storms battered southern Saskatchewan on Tuesday.

Communities without power include Nipawin, Melfort and Weyburn, and there are minor outages in Regina and Moose Jaw.
