An early morning apartment fire in Vancouver’s West End has left one man with serious burns and forced dozens of others from their homes.

The call came in to the building at 1111 Pacific Street at about 5:50 a.m.

It was contained to one suite on the fourth floor. A man was taken out of the suite, unconscious, with burns. He was taken to hospital.

Viewers were calling our newsroom early this morning, saying they could see smoke billowing into the sky.

It started as a one-alarm blaze, but quickly moved on to a two alarm. One neighbour says the building is a wooden structure and other neighbours have expressed concern in the past about how much damage a fire could do to the building.
