Trial date set in brazen daytime shooting on Edmonton Trail

CALGARY – A trial date was set Friday for a brazen daytime shooting along Edmonton Trail last year that killed one man.

Alan Devon Bird is charged with the first-degree murder of Jaimend Roberto Orellana-Sincuir (known as Jaime Orellana.)

Orellana-Sincuir was found badly injured in the 2600 block of Edmonton Trail N.E. on Feb. 22, 2015. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Bird was taken into custody and charged shortly after.

At the time, police said they believed the incident involved a “confrontation of some kind between the victim and the accused prior to the shooting” rather than a random attack.

Bird’s trial, by judge and jury, is expected to last ten days.

It’s set to begin in April 2017.

Bird remains in custody.
