“We’ve heard firecrackers going off in the area before, so the first thought was it was firecrackers,” said neighbour Betty Petrov. “I was just kind of concerned about the dogs, and I thought, ‘you know what? It was really loud, right?’ And that’s why we wanted to come out to see.”

Petrov said several people came running outside and noticed a small vehicle travelling east on 26 Avenue.

“I was born and raised here, never had an incident like this ever before so this is the first time.”

“It’s shocking. You just don’t think it’s going to happen that close to home.”

Serge Varin lives right next door to the scene of the incident.

“I saw the blood on the guy on the ground there, because I went around the corner to see what was happening,” Varin said. “I just moved here yesterday. I hope it’s not like this here all the time.”

Anyone who may have information about the shooting is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
