The man accused of shooting a Kamloops RCMP officer in 2014 pleaded guilty in court Thursday morning.
Kenneth Knutson shot Cpl. J.R. Michaud during a traffic stop.
He has been sentenced to 16.5 years in prison and with two years already served, Knutson would be released in 2030.
Knutson was arrested after an intense manhunt that lasted more than 12 hours. He is facing an attempted murder charge, along with aggravated assault and two firearms-related offences.
It was expected that Knutson would plead guilty after his lawyer made the surprise announcement in BC Supreme Court in January.
Michaud underwent multiple surgeries and spent months in hospital recovering. He returned to the job in January, 13 months after the shooting.
Knutson is a convicted killer with a lengthy criminal history and has ties to Lower Mainland drug gangs.
