It was a sad Father’s Day for Calgary’s Mayor.
Naheed Nenshi’s father, Kurbanali Hussein Nenshi, passed away on Sunday, one day after his 72nd birthday.
Kurban was born in Tanzania and immigrated to Canada with his wife in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law as well as two granddaughters.
A private memorial service will be held for the family, and they are requesting tributes to the Calgary Foundation in lieu of flowers.
In a statement released on Sunday, Nenshi said he will continue to perform the duties required by his office, but he will be less visible at community events as he will be spending more time with his family.
