POINTE-CLAIRE – The shed of the Venture Sailing Club in Pointe-Claire is going to be demolished.

This is despite the fact that over 1,000 residents signed a petition asking Mayor Morris Trudeau to rethink the project.

Trudeau said the city will build a storage locker for club members to use.

Yet some members, like Nicholas Zeferis, said membership will likely dwindle due to inconvenience.

The shed was built by scouts in the 1940s, and it is in need of renovations.

The City of Pointe-Claire is also planning to improve the surrounding park to better serve all residents.

The move has been controversial because residents nearby worry that a more family-oriented park – and the possible disappearance of the sailing club – could affect their view and standard of living.
