Former Surrey broadcaster guilty of aggravated assault

Maninder Gill, a former high profile Surrey broadcaster, has been found guilty of aggravated assault.

In August 2010, gunfire erupted at a large wedding at Surrey’s Guru Nanak temple. The shots hit developer Harjinder Singh Atwal in the leg and the Crown charged that Gill, former managing director of Radio India, fired the gun.

Atwal testified that there had been bad blood between the two men in the months leading up to the wedding.

Gill pleaded not guilty in 2014 – but today, a judge threw out his claims of self defense.

“I’m happy. Finally we have justice. It’s done,” said Atwal.

“I think there was clear evidence. He brought the gun from home, and intentionally shot on me, then he ran away. It was very clear.”
