Ontario man snags invite for Trudeau’s White House visit

An Ontario man is headed to Washington, D.C., after winning an invite to the White House for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s first official visit.

Taylor Jones applied for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after reading a Global News article on the application process.

A few days later the Kitchener man received the official invite.

“It was probably the craziest invitation I’ve ever received in my life,” Jones says with a laugh.

“What Canadian ever thinks they’d get invited to the White House,” Jones says. “It’s such a crazy opportunity.”

Jones, 26, will attend the welcoming ceremony for Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, on the grounds of the White House.

U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be in attendance Thursday to welcome the Trudeaus.

An avid photographer, Jones plans to capture every step of his experience; you can share along in the adventure on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

He says he’s grateful to have the opportunity to witness and document Trudeau’s visit.

“I want to capture that moment, that moment that everybody sees from a distance…I want my photo to be the photo that they can see… when Trudeau first visited the White House in 2016.”

Jones says upon his return he has plans to showcase the photos from his trip to Washington in an exhibit to benefit Syrian refugees.
