Rash of break and enters in Spryfield, Cowie Hill may be related: HRP

Police in Halifax are investigating a rash of break and enters in the city they believe may be related.

Police say 12 break and enters happened in the Spryfield and Cowie Hill areas since Jan. 25 and a variety of items were stolen from the homes.

  • Sometime between January 25-27: Vacant residence on Maplewood Drive, forced entry through front door, nothing taken.
  • January 26: Residence on Lynn Road, forced entry through rear door, nothing taken.
  • February 1: Residence in the 0-100 block of Old Sambro Road, entry through unlocked back door, safe, personal documents and jewellery taken.
  • February 2: Residence in the 100 block of Abrams Way, forced entry through rear door, jewellery and laptop taken.
  • February 2: Residence in the 0-100 block of Abrams Way, forced entry through rear door, nothing taken.
  • February 11: Residence in the 400 block of Herring Cove Road, forced entry through window in front door, video game system, tablet and loose change taken.
  • February 23: Residence on Rexdale Avenue, forced entry through rear door, jewellery, military medals/paraphernalia and woman’s clothing and underwear taken. A woman returned home to find an unknown man in her house. The man ran out the back door when he saw her. The man was described as 5’7” and wearing a dark hoodie, track pants, a red ball cap and white sneakers.
  • Sometime between February 22-26: Residence on Hartlen Avenue, forced entry through rear basement window, small kitchen appliance, jewellery, computer, tablet and tools taken.
  • Sometime between February 26-28: Residence where the homeowner was away on Alabaster Way, forced entry through basement door, jewellery, cash and tools taken.
  • February 29: 100 block of Drysdale Road, forced entry through basement window unknown what taken.
  • March 1: 0-100 block of Stone Gate Drive, forced entry through basement window but nothing taken.
  • March 2: 100 block of Westgate Drive, forced entry through ground floor window (attempted rear patio door entry first), jewelry and electronics taken.

Police say they have identified a potential suspect and are investigating whether the incidents are related.

Police ask that anyone who observes suspicious activity in their neighbourhood call to report it at 902-490-5020.
