RED DEER, Alta. – A judge must now decide whether an Alberta man who admits he killed his girlfriend can be held criminally responsible for her death.
Final arguments wrapped up in Red Deer on Thursday at the second-degree murder trial of Mark Lindsay.
Lindsay has admitted he killed Dana Turner in August 2011, but says he did so because he believed she was part of a group of supernatural serial killers.
The Crown argued in its closing statement that Lindsay’s actions at the time of Turner’s slaying showed rational decision-making.
But the defence said Lindsay, who is 29, has been suffering from years of mental illness and was obsessed with his delusion.
An agreed statement of facts read at the trial said Lindsay stabbed Turner in the eye with a pencil and strangled her with a shoelace before running over her body and dumping it.
