A coalition of Calgary citizens who call themselves Ready to Engage, recently commissioned a phone survey to gauge support for the proposed southwest transit way and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project along 14 Street S.W.
In a press release Wednesday, the group said they spoke with 700 people about the proposed projects over the phone.
The results appear to suggest half of decided residents oppose the project.
Ready to Engage has said it believes the project is being steamrolled through without proper analysis and consideration.
“The city is moving full speed ahead with a project based on a budget and a plan that are six years old (and) both of which have not been updated since the project was re-launched this past fall,” spokesperson Rick Donkers said.

Donkers’ group cites the economy as being one of the major differences, as well as the fact that the southwest BRT plan was created before the southwest ring road was approved and also before the city introduced its four-car light-rail transit (LRT) cars.
When asked to comment on the results of the survey, Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s office sent Global News an email saying the mayor has “no comments to make about the survey.”
