UPDATED: O’Leary area death deemed non-criminal

On Saturday, June 9, 2012, North Division police officers responded to the
area of 88 Street and 132 Avenue regarding a suspicious death.

 

The Medical Examiner has determined the manner of death to be non-criminal. Police say the won’t be releasing any other information. 

 

Background:

 

Edmonton Police are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a deceased man was found outside the O’Leary Fitness and Leisure Centre at 88th street and 132 Ave.

At approximately 9:35 am on Saturday, June 9, 2012, North Division officers responded to a call at 88 Street and 132 Avenue regarding a suspicious death.

A deceased male was discovered lying on the grass between a high school and the recreational centre. The identity and age of the deceased has not been determined.
An autopsy has now been scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012.

Homicide Section detectives are leading the investigation.

Police taped off the area, but families entering the recreation centre were still shocked by the police presence, the crime scene, and the body. Many people in the neighbourhood said the situation took them off guard, and they rarely see anything like this in their community.

The EPS say an autopsy was completed by the Medical Examiner Monday afternoon.
