EDMONTON – It was a rare sight as of late for Edmontonians Monday morning: the city was covered with snow.
There wasn’t a lot of snow in Edmonton in February, but on the last day of the month the city was hit with a snowfall as well as cold and windy conditions.
Global Edmonton weather specialist Mike Sobel said between five and eight centimetres of snow fell in the Edmonton region, and the temperature with wind chill was at -22ºC during the morning commute.
“A high pressure area in north central Saskatchewan is moving cool Arctic air up against some warm pacific air, producing snow,” Sobel said.
Some more light snow is expected in the forecast for the next couple of days in the Capital Region.
It’s a major change from last week when the temperature rose to as high as 15ºC on Friday.
Edmonton residents could consider themselves lucky compared to what was happening in northern Alberta, where the temperature dropped in the -40s with the wind chill, causing Environment Canada to issue an extreme cold warning.
