Saskatchewan election results 2016: NDP wins Regina Lakeview riding

Carla Beck of the NDP has won the Regina Lakeview riding with 4,277 votes beating out the Sask. Party’s Dan Cooper who got 2,672 votes.

Summary:  This is an urban riding in the city of Regina. Saskatchewan MLA John Nilson of the NDP was the MLA in this riding but has retired from politics. This riding will be appointing a new MLA.

Boundaries:  The Regina Lakeview riding is a riding on the south side of Regina with its boundaries being 13th Avenue to the north, Queen Street and Pasqua Street to the west, 25th Avenue, Albert Street and 23rd Avenue to the south and Broad Street and Wascana Lake to the east.

Last Election: In the 2011 election NDP candidate John Nilson beat out Saskatchewan Party candidate Bob Hawkins by just 146 votes – 48 per cent to 47 per cent.

History: John Nilson of the NDP has been the MLA for this riding since 2003. This will be the first time since 2003 that this riding has a new MLA.

Saskatchewan Party: Dan Cooper, a community pastor with experience in Palliative Care

NDP: Carla Beck, assistant executive director of a Regina women’s shelter and elected trustee for the Regina Public School Board

Liberal: Stewart Kerr, currently a student and will be completing his Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in history

Green: Larry Neufeld
