CALGARY – Britain’s Robert Whitaker took each of his five rounds to win the $40,000 ATCO Structures and Logistics Double Slalom equestrian event Sunday.
The event was part of the Spruce Meadows National series.
Whitaker, riding nine-year-old Waterstone, topped the sudden-death style competition involving 32 riders in front of 26,492 spectators.

The victory was Whitaker’s second of the week after he took home the Spruce Meadows Canadian Show Jumping Championship.
Brazilian’s Eduardo Menezes and Isabella Salles were second and third, respectively.
Meanwhile, Richard Spooner of the U.S. won the Nexen Cup Derby with a single fault and a time of 166.72 seconds.
Katie Prudent and Lauren Tisbo followed in second and third to complete an American sweep of the podium.
