KELOWNA- Don’t panic if you see smoke around the central Okanagan as good venting conditions Sunday mean multiple controlled burns are taking place.

According to a press release from the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), controlled fires are happening around the central Okanagan to “dispose of debris collected as part of the fuel modification project.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The RDCO also welcomes all property owners with fire authority permits to conduct any needed controlled fires Sunday while the conditions are right and the air quality is ideal.

Areas of Glen Canyon Regional Park, Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park, and Rose Valley Regional Park are all sites of large burns Sunday afternoon.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue has authorized the burning with appropriate permits for fire fuel hazard reduction. They want to remind residents that trails through these areas may be closed temporarily as the burning takes place.
