Firefighters and neighbours helped contain a grass fire that threatened rural property just east of Airdrie Friday afternoon.
The fire spread quickly and came dangerously close to a home and some outbuildings, but the collective effort to contain it paid off.
“Great response from the homeowners and the neighbours in the area,” Rocky View Fire Chief Randy Smith said.

“They brought a number of equipment to help create fire breaks for us – the fire was travelling quickly. Quick action from everybody and we were able to put this fire out.”
About four hectares of dry grass burned on the property. Some fencing was also scorched in the blaze.
