TORONTO – Toronto police are warning the public about a convicted sex offender who has been released from prison.
Hassan Steven Jarrar, 40, was released Friday after serving a 15-year sentence for aggravated sexual assault and assault.
Police say Jarrar – who will be living in Toronto – is considered a “high-risk offender” and the public is being notified because of his potential to re-offend.

He was convicted in 1997 after a woman’s near-lifeless body was discovered in a remote area near Lake Ontario.
The woman, who suffered serious injuries, was in hospital for several months after the attack and underwent extensive rehabilitation to learn to eat, walk and talk again.
Police say Jarrar was held in custody for the full duration of his sentence and refused to participate in any treatment program or counselling.
Under terms of his release, he must keep a nightly curfew, report weekly to Toronto police and notify them of any change in his address, or if he is leaving the area.
A picture of Jarrar is posted on the Toronto police website.
