REGINA – The province’s chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab confirmed two people in Saskatchewan have died of the flu this year.

“It’s been an unusual flu season, a very late start. Our first flu cases really started picking up in the middle of January,” Shahab explained.

He said that last week ten people were admitted to intensive care units, and that number is rising.

“We’ve had several more ICU admissions this week,” Shahab said.

“The dominant strain is H1N1, so the good thing about this strain is the vaccine works really well.”

A more in depth flu season update is being planned for the coming week.
