QUEBEC CITY – Quebec Finance Minister Carlos Leitao will table the provincial budget on March 17.

The 2016-17 budget will come down five days before federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau delivers his.

Leitao told reporters in Quebec City Thursday he expects a balanced budget.

He said any eventual surplus would go to reducing the province’s massive debt.

Leitao’s economic update from last November said Quebec was also on the way to a balanced budget for the current fiscal year, which ends March 31.
