MONTREAL – Tens of thousands of homes and businesses in Quebec are without power after heavy rainfall overnight.

Hydro explained the failures were caused by trees and branches touching the power lines.

The rainfall warning issued by Environment Canada was lifted at 2 a.m. Thursday.

“[There’s a] long list of schools with no power,” Suanne Stein Day, spokesperson of the Lester B. Pearson School Board told Global News.

“[In] Hudson, Saint-Lazare, Beaconsfield and Pierrefonds.”

The following schools are closed because of the inclement weather:

The English Montreal schools are open.

“We have not closed due to weather in at least 10 years,” Mike Cohen, EMSB spokesperson, told Global News.

The New Frontiers and Riverside school boards did not announce any closures.
