Jogger assaulted near park entrance in Chilliwack

The Chilliwack RCMP are warning women to be extra careful after a 46 year old jogger was assaulted on Fairfield Island last night.

It happened around 11 p.m. near the entrance to Gwynne Vaughan Park.

The woman was jogging home along Hope River Road after leaving a friends house when she was allegedly assaulted by an unknown man.

She fought back and the man ran away.

The victim suffered superficial injuries and was released from hospital shortly after.

The suspect is described as approximately 30 years old, Caucasian, with short dark hair and a long, thin face. He was wearing dark coloured pants and a dark coloured long-sleeved shirt.

Investigators think the man intended to sexually assault the victim.

“Police are in the initial stages of the investigation and are currently looking for any potential witnesses and are trying to determine the exact motive for this attack. In these types of investigations, the police rely on the public to assist us as they are the eyes and ears of the community,” says Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth with the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment.
