The Grade 2 students at St. Dominic School in Calgary are wondering about all kinds of interesting things:
“How fast can a cheetah run?”
“What is your brain made of?”
“Are dolphins smarter than humans?”
Now, they have a place to pose those questions, writing them up on a “Wonder Wall” – the kind of initiative that’s helped earn their principal a national award.
Kevin DeForge is heading to Toronto next week to accept the honour of being named one of Canada’s Top 40 Outstanding Principals.
It comes from The Learning Partnership, an organization that encourages innovation in schools across the country.
“It’s kind of humbling,” DeForge said. “It’s something that I really didn’t expect to get, something that’s an honour to get.”
“I think it’s actually going to be really cool for him,” Grade 2 student Taylor said.
“The way I see education,” De Forge said, “is that it’s all about students telling us what they want to learn and how they want to learn it, which is why we have things like the Wonder Wall.”
