CALGARY – The RCMP are investigating after “kill the traitor Trudeau” graffiti was sprayed on a Calgary school over the weekend, police said Wednesday.
“All threats are taken seriously,” a spokesperson said in an email to Global News. “RCMP security measures put in place for the Prime Minister and his family are intelligence-led and commensurate with threat assessments.”
The RCMP said it doesn’t comment on the details of the security measures in order to ensure the safety of the prime minister and his family. Police said security measures and practices are continuously reviewed.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded Monday to the graffiti sprayed at Wilma Hansen School in Queensland, which included racist remarks directed towards Syrian refugees. One message calls for violence against Syrians and mosques and reads: “Syrians go home and die.”

Trudeau tweeted: “Canadians have shown the best of our country in welcoming refugees. That spirit won’t be diminished by fear and hate.”
The walls were cleaned up before classes resumed on Tuesday.
Calgary police are investigating the incident as a hate crime—citing specific references to burning mosques.
