Getting married is one thing, but staying married is not so easy.
Cue John and Ann Betar.
The couple from Fairfield, Ct. can boast that they’re America’s longest married couple and they have some advice for you.
The pair eloped in New York more than 83 years ago, running away from Ann’s father who wanted her to marry a man 20 years her senior.
Now, the centenarians have a large family of 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Their next project will be tweeting out love and life advice this Valentine’s Day (those who would like to ask John and Ann a question can tweet @Handy using the hashtag #LongestLove.)

John told The Washington Post that the best part of their long union is “just simply being together.”
“We’re just lucky to be together. So fortunate.”
The Betars have some words of wisdom for young lovers.
“Be content with what you have,” said John. “Don’t spend more than you have. Respect each other.”
