TORONTO – A man has been shot after an altercation with police in Durham on Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a call at 12:02p.m. on Wednesday to investigate a stolen vehicle driving through the Park Road and Hillsdale Road area in Oshawa.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was smashing into parked cars on a residential road.

The police officer confronted the driver when he arrived at the scene.

According to a press release from Durham Regional Police, the officer “discharged” his weapon and the suspect received a non-life threatening injuries.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating. The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates alleged police misconduct in Ontario.

Durham police have closed the area of Park Road and Montraye in Oshawa as they continue to investigate.
