SASKATOON – Have you ever wondered how Google Maps is able to bring you up to the date information about traffic movements in your city? It turns out your phone has been helping all along.

Google Canada says all iPhones that have Google Maps open and Android phones that have location services turned on, send anonymous bits of data back to Google to feed the map information. This is something you consent to in your privacy terms when you download the app, and any data that could personally identify you is de-linked from the position reports.
