TORONTO – John Dryden was spending a leisurely Sunday afternoon outside when he heard a next door neighbour tell him about a suspicious creature lurking in his backyard.
“There is nothing in the neighbourhood, it’s very shocking where would it come from, no place for it to really stay and grow,” said Dryden.
The animal that shook Dryden’s nerve was a three-foot-long alligator roaming next to the bushes in behind his Brampton home near Mill and Frederick Street.

“I wandered to the back and I saw a bunch of people hanging around, so I ran and grabbed my camera and took a bunch of pictures,” Dryden said.
Peel Police were the first to arrive on scene but it took a call to Brampton Animal Control to remove the reptile from the premises.
“I figured it got to be somebody’s pet,” said Dryden. “Someone maybe grew it so big and let it go.”
The alligator has since been taken away to a zoo outside the GTA.
But not before giving those living in the neighbourhood a big chill.
“I thought we were living in a safari here,” said Brampton resident Jason Kelly. “It’s not every day this goes on.”
