REGINA – Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says if immigrants are keen to live with their extended families, they’re welcome to do so in their own country.
Kenney is defending changes that Ottawa asked Saskatchewan to make to its immigrant nominee program.

Under the new rules, an immigrant can nominate only one relative and that person’s immediate family at a time and those nominees need to have a job offer.
Immigrants in Saskatchewan say the changes, announced without notice or a phased-in period, are a betrayal.
Kenney says he doesn’t think people came to Canada with the expectation that they would be able to nominate their cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He says allowing expanded families happened briefly in a couple of provinces and it no longer exists.
