Saskatchewan’s annual inflation rate edges up in April: StatsCan

Statistics Canada says the annual inflation rate in Saskatchewan edged up three-tenths of a point in April to sit at 2.1 per cent. 

That’s slightly higher than the national rate of 2.0 per cent. 

Prices were up in all categories from the previous year, led by clothing and footwear at 4.9 per cent, transportation at 2.9 per cent and food at 2.4 per cent.

Gasoline prices were up slightly from the same period last year, rising 0.3 per cent. 

In Saskatoon, the annual inflation rate was 2.0 per cent in April, up four-tenths of a point while in Regina, the rate also rose four-tenths of a point to 2.4 per cent. 

StatsCan cautions figures for the cities may fluctuate widely due to small statistical samples.
