Edmonton Police searching for missing 24-year old

On Tuesday, May 15, 2012 Alex Thomas-Haug, 24, was reported missing to Edmonton Police Service by his family, after he had not been seen or heard from in more than 24 hours.

Thomas-Haug was last seen by his friends around 4 a.m., Monday, May 14 close to his home in the area of 95 Street and 73 Avenue.

He allegedly called a friend to arrange to pick up his house keys and started out on foot, possibly through the Mill Creek Ravine, to the friend’s home in the area of 98 Street and 81 Avenue. Thomas-Haug never arrived and hasn’t been seen since.

On Wednesday, May 16, at 8 p.m., Southwest police officers consulted the EPS Missing Persons Unit, and a search manager was dispatched to the Mill Creek Ravine. Search and Rescue Teams, made up of skilled volunteers and search dogs were also dispatched. With the help of Air-1, a concentrated search of the ravine and residential area continued throughout the night, and into the early morning hours of Thursday, May 17, 2012.

Friends and family also joined the search efforts, canvassing the area by passing out flyers and spreading the word.

“Somebody has to know something and he has to be found. We just need to find him. He needs to come back home,” said family friend Christine Leonard.

“We love our son, he has a great group of supportive friends, he’s a hard worker, he’s a good person, so if you meet him and talk to him, send him home,” his mother, Lorna Thomas, added.

Thomas finds her son’s disappearance out of character because she says he always made it a habit to check in with friends and family. Still, she remains optimistic.

“I’m putting out hope that my son is making his way home.”

While there is no evidence of foul play, the lack of contact with family and friends, and the absence of any activity on Thomas-Haug’s phone, bank and social media accounts are out of character and suspicious.
