A 61-year-old man from Fort McMurray sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Northern Lights Hospital in critical condition. He was driving the minivan. No one else was injured.

Emergency crews were on scene shortly before noon, along with RCMP.

RCMP were asking drivers to avoid the area.

At 3:30 p.m., officers said RCMP were still on scene and traffic access was still limited. Only one lane would be open for the next two hours, they said.
