Michael Daniels wanted for personation in a Cold Lake bottle depot donation box theft. RCMP

EDMONTON- The man police believe is behind the theft of a donation box is in police custody after spinning quite a story to officers.

On December 22, Cold Lake RCMP arrested Michael Daniels following a theft at a local bottle depot. A donation box containing $200 destined for the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton had been stolen.

During that arrest, Daniels told police he was ‘Jared Jacknife’ of the Elizabeth Metis Settlement.

On January 14, police issued an arrest warrant for Daniels, and added a ‘personation’ charge, stating the charges against ‘Jared Jacknife’ were withdrawn and that he had no involvement in the crime.

Daniels also faces an unrelated charge of theft under $5000 in connection to a robbery September 20, 2015.

On Saturday night, Cold Lake RCMP located and arrested Michael Daniels. He will remain in custody.
