TORONTO — A Toronto police sergeant faces two charges after a 47-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries after being stopped in Scarborough on Halloween.
The Special Investigations Unit says the man drove his vehicle into a parking lot at 10 Gordonridge Pl., near Danforth Road and Midland Avenue, at about 4 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2015, when a police cruiser drove up behind him and stopped his vehicle.
That’s when investigators said there was an “interaction” between the police officer and the man. The officer left the scene.
Paramedics attended the scene and transported the man to the Scarborough Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The SIU told Global News they would not comment on the extent of the man’s injuries.
SIU director Tony Loparco said he had reasonable grounds to believe the sergeant committed criminal offences and Sgt. Robert Goudie is now facing one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of failure to provide the necessaries of life.
Goudie is scheduled to appear in court in Toronto on Feb. 23.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
