WATCH: Things are about to get worse in New Westminster, which already sees its fair share of traffic gridlock. In two weeks Front Street will be closed, while the old parkade above it is torn down. And it won't be a short shutdown. Nadia Stewart has more – Jan 14, 2016

Get ready for traffic headaches in New Westminster.

Starting February 1, Front Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic while the old parkade above it is torn down.

It is expected to remain closed until July.

Commercial truck traffic is a major user of Front St. and the city is changing truck route regulations on Royal and Columbia Streets.

Eastbound truck traffic will be permitted on Royal Between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Westbound traffic will be permitted on Columbia during those hours.

The city says it is making every effort to minimize disruptions to residents and businesses along Front Street.
