REGINA – Widely regarded as a revolutionary and innovator, music legend David Bowie has died.

Bowie had been battling liver cancer for the past 18 months and passed away peacefully in his home Sunday. He was 69 years old.

The rock star died just two days after releasing his 25th and final album called “Blackstar”.

For local musician Steven Eisler, it was Bowie’s avant-garde style that encouraged him to continue his music.

“The way he dressed, Ziggy Stardust. You’ve got to have a lot of courage to do something like that,” he said.

“It’s seeing things like that that has really been, shaped me into the person I am today , to be yourself, and not worry about how extreme you may look to other people”

The Hearts&Knives musician first heard Bowie’s infamous “China Girl” almost two decades ago.

He said he’s been following his music ever since.

“There’s not too many people in the music industry that has influenced a couple of generations. It’s a huge loss for the music industry.”

The British icon has sold over 140 million albums worldwide, with a music career spanning over 50 years.
